We are Antoine and Élodie.

Our journey began in the early 1990s, in the south of France, where we opened our first restaurant. What started as a small kitchen quickly became a place where people came together to eat, to talk, and to feel at home.

Antoine worked behind the stove, trained in classic French technique, driven by precision and respect for ingredients. Élodie shaped the experience around it  hospitality, atmosphere, and the small details that make guests feel truly welcome.

From the beginning, our philosophy was simple:
cook with integrity, serve with care, and never compromise on quality.

A LIFE IN THE KITCHEN

As our restaurant grew, so did our ambitions.
Our passion for cooking and craftsmanship eventually led us across the ocean, to the United States, where we spent many years running our restaurant abroad.

The pace was intense, the expectations high, but our values never changed. Every dish, every service, every tool in our kitchen had to earn its place. We believed that good food starts long before it reaches the plate — with the right techniques and the right tools.

A NEW BEGINNING

 

Stepping away from the restaurant did not mean stepping away from what we love.

Instead, we asked ourselves a new question:
How can we bring the standards of a professional kitchen into everyday homes — without compromise?

That question became the beginning of Merdove.

WHEN WE HAD TO LET GO

After decades in professional kitchens, our journey took an unexpected turn.

Antoine began to suffer from severe osteoarthritis, making the physical demands of restaurant life increasingly painful. Long hours on our feet, constant movement, and the rhythm of service became impossible to maintain.

Closing our restaurant was not a choice we wanted to make — but one we had to.

Letting go of a lifetime in the kitchen was one of the hardest moments we have ever faced.
